Spinners and Bait Rigs

Spinners account for a huge amount of fish catches, and have done so for a very long time. These lures can be used alone or with baits and scents and in a number of configurations. Here in the Northwest spinners are a favorite for trout, steelhead, and salmon, though just about any species of game fish will take a spinner.

Spinners are often coupled with bait rigs, to add flash and vibration waves to the offering, or in the case of the Limit Out Bait Rig, to actually spin the bait. In either case, the catch rate is often enhanced.

We stock the Limit Out Bait Rig in the clear and green colors. The rig comes with both a single saiwash hook and a single treble hook, each tied to a 30 lb. Maxima green leader. These are "sliding" rigs. The sliding part of the hook tie is to accommodate different lengths of herring and also to place the hook farther back or closer to the middle, whatever you want.

The Limit Out Bait Rig is a tackle-box essential for those using fresh or cured herring. I began to use the Limit Out Bait Rig along with a LongLiner this spring (2010) and found it to be deadly for Springers (spring king salmon). You know what I'll be using for the fall run too! For salmon I fish the Limit Out Bait Rig 25 to 100 feet behind a LongLiner, depending upon conditions.

This is the "go to" rig for halibut by a growing number of flattie hunters. Fish it just above those beady eyes and they're going to eat it! It is easy to rerig with 60 to 150 pound mono and 8/0 to 10/0 hooks. The Octopus style hooks work very well. Use a chrome finish for best penetration.

The rig is easy to use and I fish it as far behind LongLiner as I want--depending upon conditions and the bite. Its inventor, Jim Milanoski, put LongLiner and his Limit Out Bait Rig together and immediately said that the deadly combination is like "peanut butter and jelly!"
